Located in Bedford, New York, this project was part of the remodelation of a 1850s traditional house. The four-car garage was planned as a detached building. The design was developed with two main goals: to build a structure that would not compete with the architecture of the existing house and to minimize the visual impact on the site.
Stone is found all over the undulated topography of this area. Traditionally, farmers would clear their parcels for agriculture and use it to build walls, dividing and delimiting their land. Ancient field stone walls still remain throughout the landscape. The design was conceived as a tribute to that tradition.
The reinforced concrete structure is buried under the sloped topography of the lot and blends with the site. We believe that the strength of this project resides in the beauty of the silent gesture.
