This house is located in El Golf de Nordelta, a gated community 20 miles (32 km) north of the city of Buenos Aires. The lot, with elongated proportions, is situated in front of a large lake, central to the development. The project was structured around the views towards the water. The land has a pronounced slope that goes from the road to the lake: the difference in level is more than 10 feet (3 meters). This became an inspiration for the design.
Developed in three levels, the layout accommodates the bedrooms on the third, the living spaces on the middle and the swimming pool and covered barbecue area on the lower level. Viewed from the road, the house is perceived as a two-storey structure. The front yard slopes underneath the house, connecting to the back yard and the lake.
Since the lake views towards the south were not ideal in terms of sun exposure, we designed the living-dining room with glass openings on both sides. We conceived the floor plan as an L-shape in which the main volume rests against one of the sides of the lot to generate space and receive light on the opposite face. Perpendicular to it, the planted roof of the living areas becomes a green extension of the master suite. At the same time, the single-storey volume is the roof of the barbecue area.
The structure was built with reinforced concrete. The materials chosen for the exterior were mainly exposed concrete and a hard wood. On the interior, the walls were finished with plaster and the floors with wood boards.
During the entire design process, we tried to develop all the details with extreme simplicity. From our perspective, the house has achieved a very balanced and pleasing sense of scale.
