CALIFORNIA STABLES

Project: California Stables

Location: Lake County, California, USA

Size: 1,480 m2

Status: Project

Partners: Juan Ignacio Ramos & Ignacio Ramos

As part of the Guenoc & Napa Valley Project, the Polo and Equestrian Development is located in Lake County, California. The California Equestrian Resort includes a polo and equestrian club, a lodge and a residential development.

We were captivated by the beauty of the site, with its mountains, meadows and lakes. The first goal was to absorb and understand the essence of the place in order to relate the project to the context and reduce the impact of the construction on the environment.

The proposed architecture has a pure and simple language. The intention was to make the buildings blend with the land- scape with the use of earth berms and planted roofs, as well as local stone, exposed concrete and local hardwood.

As a precious element in this area, water is present in the design of all the buildings.

THE STABLES

The stables, designed to accommodate 33 polo and jumping horses, are located across the lake and facing the clubhouse.
A sequence of different spaces and experiences was created
by two perpendicular volumes and free-standing walls.

The tack room for polo players and riders includes a lounge area and a covered terrace that extends towards the lake, giving the impression of floating over the water. To reduce the visual impact of

the building on the site, the roofs were planted and part of the structure was hidden behind earth berms.
